Game 2 April 11th, 1976 - Pittsburgh at Philadelphia

The Pirates looked to sweep this 2 game series just like they did in real life during the 1976 season.  Bruce Kison started game 2 and Jim Kaat pitched for the Phillies.  In real life, Steve Carlton pitched for the Phillies and Kison went for the Bucs.  Dave Parker led off with a single and then Al Oliver took Kaat deep to give the Bucs a quick 2-0 lead.  The Pirates would tack on 2 more runs in the 1st highlighted by a Bill Robinson double.  Jim Kaat would settle down but exit in the 6th.  Mike Schmidt hit his first homerun in the 4th for the Phillies which was a mammoth shot into the left field stands.  Richie Zisk led off the 6th with a homer off Kaat and then 2 batters later Bill Robinson homered to chase Kaat.  Bruce Kison was cruising with a 6-1 lead but surrendered 2 runs to the Phillies in the bottom of the 6th.  He gutted it out and escaped damage by striking out Bob Boone.  Tug McGraw was brought in for some mop up duty in the 8th and gave up 2 runs but only 1 was earned as Bobby Tolan committed an error to allow a pirates run.  Richie Zisk homered again in the 9th off McGraw for his second homerun of the game.  This was a 2-run shot to give the pirates a 10-3 lead and that is how it ended.  Bruce Kison picks up his first win and Jim Kaat suffered his first loss.  Ironically, the real score was 8-3 in favor of the pirates and this game almost came out identical.  This series was played h2h with Brandon Hayes and it was a fun series.
